Taking the long way to Galveston from Austin by spending a couple of days in Corpus Christi. Always a fan of back roads and non-interstate highway travel, I took the indirect, let's see where this road takes me approach. I found myself meandering along SR-35 and in Bay City, TX for the evening.
The local friendly hotel desk clerk recommended Ricardo's Mexican Restaurant as "her favorite mexican food place" and I took a chance. When I say I took a chance, I have found my hit-to-miss ratio about 50/50 when doing this but a day of riding in strong wind had left me ready to be off the road for the night. Ricardo's was just off the road and easily found so things were already heading in a positive direction. "The essential to budget travel is to plan in front. I was greeted by a friendly hostess as soon as I entered and was immediately seated at a table.
With the dining area already full of the delightful aroma of assorted dishes, I went with the Double Trouble as my selection. When my dinner arrived it arrived on multiple dishes something that always brings a smile to my face. I like food and I like lots of it, and that's exactly what I got! Even my appetizer tortilla chips came with three different dips... seasoned refried beans, salsa, and salsa verde. The main course consisted of two beef enchilada's covered in chili sauce and cheese, two ground beef tacos, charro beans and rice. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted great. Double Trouble - $7.99.
If you find yourself passin through Bay City, TX and hungry, you could do a lot worse than heading over to Ricardo's. Ricardo's has a pretty extensive menu so if enchilada's aren't your cup of tea, I'm sure you will find something that you'll like. Be sure to look at the specials board!
