It may surprise you to learn that Columbus is the third largest city in Georgia. Separated from Phenix City, Alabama by the mighty Chattahoochee River, this city of around 190,000 was named for explorer Christopher Columbus and is a straight shot down Highway 280 from Birmingham, Alabama.
Columbus outdoors.
In recent years Columbus has done much to improve its image and attract visitors and new residents. One of the city's greatest pride and joys is the Chattahoochee RiverWalk, a 15-mile park along the banks of the Chattahoochee River, extending from the campus of TSYS School of Computer Science into the cotton mill town of Bibb City.
If you're into geocaching, stop by the CVB offices at 900 Front Avenue and pick up a RiverWalk GeoTour Grid Sheet. Caches are located at 32 points along the 15-mile RiverWalk. Not registered as a geocacher? Go to www.Geocaching.com to create your account and get started.
The Whitewater Columbus, GA project will add another fun use to the Chattahoochee waterway. They hope to see their first white water rafters by summer of 2013 on what is projected to be the longest urban whitewater course in the world.
