From Fresno or Bakersfield its a short drive west in two hours youll be there, take the 46 west to the 101 south to the 41 west (not the Hearst Castle exit) youll exit after Traffic Way on the 41. Take the time, if you have it, to visit the Charles Paddock Zoo, the adult price is approximately $6, its a small park with Tiger, flamingo, bear, meercats and an anteater, there is a petting zoo inside and food for the animals is available. Plan to pack a picnic because the park next to it is old, lush and full of large shade trees.

Traveling through the canyon you will see Iron sculpted Dinosaurs, be on the lookout for these youll want to stop and take a few picture they are magnificent. You will see avocado groves and roadside produce stands, take advantage of some of the locally grown fare, you will know your close when you see the Rock.

El Morro as it was named is a dormant volcano sitting the water between miles of beach and a quaint marina. Parking can be a little difficult in season but its mostly free. If you have small children take a few minutes to find the aquarium located across from the Shell Shop on the east end of Embarcadero Drive. The fee is $2 and for that you get a bag of sardines to hand feed the seals in the tanks. They are quite entertaining; the older one will clap his flippers when you clap your hands. Once youve rinsed the fish off your fingers in the huge shell sink, enter the doors to the aquarium, once inside you will find an array of other sea creatures from lobster, crab, shark and eel all native to the area. Take a few minutes to look at the exhibits on the wall nearest the exit, they are old but informative.

If you are getting hungry, across the culdesack is the Flying Dutchman the food is reasonably priced, always good, the service is excellent and the views are fantastic. "The key to budget travel is to plan ahead. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is always in the back of our mind. Organizing and expending our travel budget properly is a consideration for most families. Minimizing spending and prices, while still taking pleasure in your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured accomplishment and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind economizing money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal budget is incredibly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, no matter whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel charge!..". In the same building you will find a candy shop, a toy store and a trendy clothing store. Right next door is another wonderful shop if youve forgotten your sweater and cold its a great place to pick one up, or buy a souvenir tee shirt for Uncle Tom. There is no shortage of shopping and its an easy walk from one end of the Marina to the other. Perhaps youd like to purchase shells, fine art or a good bottle of wine, its there.

You might want to take advantage of the rental boats just down the steps behind the aquarium, theyre fun, perhaps youd like the electric touring boat or a canoe to get close to the birds located in the estuary. If you havent had enough sea life yet head east down the main road past the park and up on the hill you will see a museum. The views are fabulous and its interactive, your little ones will love it. If none of this sounds like your cup of tea then look for a newspaper stand and pick up a copy of the New Times its a free local publication that is listed in chronological order; listing all there is to see and do, from comedy clubs to art festivals and concerts there is truly something for everyone here in Morro Bay. The shopping is great, the restaurants are plentiful and the weather is usually perfect. Its little more than two hours away; what are you waiting for.
