Memorial Day events in Sacramento - Part I Festivals and Concerts

Memorial Day weekend starts the unofficial summer travel season If you're not traveling this weekend, there are a number of great events going on in Sacramento. So get out, enjoy the sunshine, and check out these events:

Sacramento Jazz & Jubilee Festival - This year marks the 37th year of this event. Sacramento has one of the biggest jazz festivals in the country with great music and events all weekend. The events kick off Thursday night with a kick off party and finish up on Monday afternoon. Catch the music and fun of one of the biggest events in Sacramento all year.

Check out over 450 sets of music, including the Molly Ringwald Quartet, as they perform this weekend. Some other great jazz names include Louis Ford and the New Orleans Jazz Flairs, Arbors "Statesmen of Jazz", Ray Obiedo and Mambo Caribe, and many more.

The Jazz Jubilee has events all over the city in places like the Convention Center, Old Sacramento, the Delta King, Round Table Pizza, and more. Most of the action will be in Old Sacramento so check the schedule of events to see which days and places you want to attend. Events run from morning til night and there will be lots of food and fun.

Tickets must be purchased for this event and range from $110 for the entire weekend, $10 for the kickoff party, $35 for Friday, and $45 for Saturday or Sunday. Youth tickets (ages 7 -20) are available for $50, $20, and $15.

Walk N'Rock for Kids - Raley Field will be the host of a number of events on May 30th including a 5K walk and rock concert to benefit local children's charities put on by the Hope Foundation. The important to budget travel is to plan onward. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is always in the back of our thoughts. Huge numbers are expected for this concert so get out there, help kids and these local charities, and enjoy a great day in the Walk N'Rock for kids. California State Railroad Museum Jazz Weekend - As part of the Jazz Jubilee and Festival, the California State Railroad Museum will join in the fun this weekend with music and learning. Jazz musicians will be performing inside the museum and on the trains this weekend. There will be a free Children's Stage and activity area outside the museum for kids to enjoy as well.

Regular ticket prices apply to the museum and train rides but those attending the Jazz Jubilee get free admission to the museum with their badges. So enjoy some learning and jazz music together this weekend! For more information, check out the California State Railroad Museum.

Vacaville's Fiesta Days - Another big event in the area celebrates Fiesta Days, Vacaville's celebration of the old west and various heritages. This event began over 50 years old as Vacaville was looking to start it's own celebration in the city after many years of smaller festivals. It started out as an event celebrating cowboys and rodeos but has evolved into an event which now celebrates Spanish and Mexican heritage. Fiesta Days is a week long event culminating in the big celebrations over the weekend.

Events for this week kicked off on Monday with a family Movie Night and pageants on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursdays events include a golf tournament, a Carnival and Beer Garden (with live music, beer, wine, and food vendors), and music from Skynnyrd Lynnyrd.

The weekend features a variety of events sure to meet everyone's taste in fun - carnival rides, the beer garden, plays, classic car shows, parades, kids events (including a Diaper Derby), music, a talent contest, and the Hispanic Day Celebration featuring music, food, and contests.

Tim McGraw - See one of country music's biggest stars as he performs at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre on his Southern Voice Tour. If Tim McGraw wasn't enough, rising stars Lady Antebellum will be performing as well as Love and Theft. This concert is on Friday, May 28th at 7 pm in Marysville and tickets range from $28.50 to $76.50.
