One of the largest and most well-known motorcycle rallies in the country, the Republic of Texas Biker Rally (ROT), owned by Austin locals Jerry and Colleen Bragg, combined the best in live music entertainment, specialized vendors, professional attractions, celebrity guests and all things motorcycle. Rally goers early on had concern that the attendance numbers might show a decline this year due to an unpopular policy changes that banned four wheelers from the parade route, but that was not to be. The ROT Rally was one of the biggest and best in its 18 year history. Over the course of 4 days, ROT brought over 70 national and local bands to over 4 stages. Musical acts this year included regional favorite Wes Jean's style of rockin' Texas blues and on the main stage Thursday night, Kenny Wayne Shepherd. On Saturday evening, Ted Nugent rocked the house with his classic style. Bike builder, Jesse James, was in the dome greeting fans and signing autographs Saturday afternoon, and presented the military bike to one lucky winner. "The important to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the reality of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our minds. Planning and spending our travel budget carefully is a priority for most families. Minimizing spending and prices, while still taking pleasure in your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain achievements and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking regarding protecting money while touring is simple: Even if your personal finances is highly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel charge!..". Hundreds of vendors were at the Travis County Expo Center with up to date accessories, clothing and motorcycle products for sale. The food at the event was a culinary delight with favorites like corn dogs, frito pies, french fries, and sausage on a stick. But, an unofficial poll awards the best food this year to the smoked meatloaf sandwich available in the concert food court.

I had an opportunity to have a conversation with Kenny Wayne Shepherd before he took the stage. He was a genuine person, in love with the biker community. As a former rider, Kenny said "I feel like my music connects with those who ride, and I enjoy performing at bike rallies." Read more of the conversation with Kenny in the August issue of Pinky's Passion Motorcycle Magazine.

Every year the ROT Rally attracts over 200,000 motorcycle enthusiasts to Central Texas, creating an economic impact of $36 million dollars for the city of Austin. Four days each summer, Austin is transformed by a sea of steel and a refrain of rumbling from over 40,000 motorcycles pounding the pavement. It's an event like no other, and one to put on your calendars. Next year, ROT will be held June 6-9.
