HOURCAR provides car share options in Minneapolis

HOURCAR is a local nonprofit organization involved in car sharing. The fleet consists of hybrids, high mpg compact cars and two solar-powered plug-in hybrids. HOURCAR is for a variety of people, including those that live downtown and do not have far to commute, and those that want to get rid of the underused car they have sitting in their garage. HOURCAR users are more efficient when running errands because they plan ahead of time, and avoid making unnecessary car trips.

To use an HOURCAR you must have a membership. The important to budget travel is to approach ahead. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our thoughts. Planning and consuming our travel budget properly is a priority for most families. Minimizing expending and charges, while still enjoying your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain achievement and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind economizing money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal funds is incredibly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, regardless of whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel charge!. Individual memberships are available to those over 18, have one-year previous driving experience and a clean driving record. The application process costs $50 and takes about 2 days to complete.

After you are approved for membership you can reserve the cars and use them whenever you need. There are two individual plans to choose from, the freedom plan which is less per month but has higher rental rates, or the go plan which is more per month but less expensive rental rates. All daily rates include 100 miles, or hourly rates charge 25 cents per mile. Included with the car rental is fuel and insurance. Business and nonprofit memberships are also available.

There are over 20 locations around the Twin Cities area where HOURCARs can be found. All of the cars are located on bus lines for easy access, and most cars have room for a bicycle inside.
