Lonely Planet, for me, has always provided the most reliable travel information, either in a guidebook or online. Whether you are going to India, South Africa or England, Lonely Planet will help you immensely. The reason I love this guide book so much is because it has everything and anything in all price ranges. For the person on a budget, it almost always has hostel, restaurant, beach, hike and landmark suggestions, among others, and the companys suggestions are spot-on. Lonely Planet has 500 travel guides, which cover 195 countries.
Think of it this way if travelers did not like a particular guide book, you would hear about it immediately, either online or through word of mouth. "The key to budget travel is to plan onward. One of my favorite personal experiences with Lonely Planet is when I traveled to Jordan with a group of friends. My friend took her Israel and the Middle East guide book. Though all of us had laptops with us in Israel, we used the guidebook as reference when planning our trip to Petra and Wadi Rum. And, we didnt think it would be the best idea to lug around our laptops. Lonely Planet suggested a cheap hostel in Petra; it was in a great location, and the hostel played the Indiana Jones movie that was filmed in the city every night. We took Lonely Planets advice, and we couldnt have been happier. The hostel was accommodating, and we met a Canadian friend who we all have kept in touch with to this day.
Lonely Planet books can be purchased at your local bookstore, online or on a smartphone or tablet. The books are sold in Barnes & Noble nationwide; a good online source to always check is Amazon.com. Also, make sure to check out Lonely Planets site for ebooks , chapters in ebooks and paperbacks. Lonely Planet makes city-specific guidebooks, too. Look for $0.99 city guides on your smartphone store, on Android and iPhone. Despite the plethora of other sites online, such as tripadvisor.com, travelfish.org and tourismradio.info, Lonely Planets guides will serve you well for a long weekend driving trip.
