Aw Ojai, it's one of those truly gorgeous locations that with every breath will have you feeling more and more refreshed. It's a great place to spend a weekend as you can either relax around the pool of your chosen hotel, or you can take part in a leisurely hike in the surrounding areas.
Ojai really is a place of nature. Their hills are a gorgeous golden brown, filled with beautiful trees and yes, even orange groves. And there is this fabulous 'small town' feel to it. Especially if you take a walk along their street of arcade shops located on the eastern side of Ojai.
The architecture is primarily of the Spanish decent, which does offer some beautiful picture taking opportunities. The Ojai visitor's center is a great example of this. As are the arcade shops, which offer a great afternoon of window shopping.
Ojai is located about an hour north of Los Angeles just before you get to Santa Barbara. It is not on the cheapest of sides, but there are a few hotels that you can find for about 50 dollars a night. Another option would be to just spend the day up there. You will find more then enough to occupy your day and you won't have to shell out the cash for a hotel room. Camping in Ojai would be another budget option, but probably only around the summer months. The location really is stunning, and you will have a great relaxing weekend which is not very far from Los Angeles.
