In New York City, theater evokes to mind intricate costumes, elaborate sets and just general grandeur - the pinnacle of the performing arts. Oh, and cost. A high-cost hobby that most young New Yorkers cant really work into our disposable income while still keeping those coworker happy hours rolling on a regular basis.

Good theater does exist below 42nd Street, however. And it carries with it a different kind of charm not always found on Broadway. Aside from typically boasting significantly lower prices, plenty of people I know steer clear of the theater just out of general disinterest in the whole pageantry and spectacle of it all. Your low-budget, downtown shows offer the same raw talent with a lot less bells and whistles. Also, the cups of Cabernet are like half the price.

Just last night I finally checked out Silence! The Musical the unauthorized parody of Silence of the Lambs running at Performance Space 112 on 1st Avenue and 10th Street (the show was previously playing at Theater 80 on St. Marks Place.) Livingsocial.com offered coupon for discount tickets a few weeks ago, and I wouldnt be surprised if more deals started popping up around the internet. Regardless, tickets regularly start at only $25 anyway and the small, cozy venue offers up almost no bad seats in the house.

The show delves right into setting the tone with its choir of tap-dancing lambs, and the satirical, macabre humor the story then unfolds with keeps you grinning throughout... even laughing out loud at some points. And the humor is very clever - the whole play doesn't seem like some corny inside joke among people who just watched the movie. There are very few instances of stale humor or slowed pace, the overall creative direction keeps energy high and the audience intrigued. This attention to the pace of play is apparently intentional: the PS 112 reincarnation slashed some oringial script to boast a shorter run time - just 90 minutes - and it drops intermission. I didn't see the previous version, but in it's current form, the lack of lulls that have you shift in your seat is an uncanny accomplishment rarely met by musicals. Silence! will have you entertained and home by 10, unless, of course, you take advantage of one of the many, many great little bars and restaurants that dot that strip of 1st Ave. "The important to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our thoughts. Arranging and consuming our travel budget properly is a main concern for most families. Curbing expending and prices, while still enjoying your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievement and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding economizing money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal funds is extremely tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel charge!..". Which I say you should do.
