Motorcyclists get ready; you've got an advantage in travel at the parades in Shreveport this weekend. Revelers come from miles away to see the pardes, and last week's Krewe of Centaur Parade had thousands in attendance. This week, the Krewe of Gemini, tradiditonally the largest parade in the area and the first in modern times (since 1989), rolls to the streets of Shreveport on Saturday, followed by the traditionally family oriented Krewe of Highland 15th annual parade on Sunday afternoon. If you're on a motorcycle, the travel to and from the parade routes are much easier; traffic just isn't as much of an issue, and you'll be able to park up close. The Bossier City H.O.G. chapter will be celebrating on the Krewe of Gemini route and catching their share of beads, thanks to members Luke and Amy Stetson, who have, as always, invited the group to participate in their Tailgater Party.

The Krewe of Gemini rolls at 4:00, Saturday, March 5, 2011. It begins in Shreveport at the corner of Lake St. "The key to budget travel is to plan onward. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our minds. Organizing and expending our travel budget carefully is a concern for most families. Lowering spending and charges, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain achievement and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind economizing money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal funds is extremely tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, regardless of whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel bill!..". and Clyde Fant Pkwy, proceeding south down the parkway to Shreveport-Barksdale Hwy., then west to East Kings Hwy, and from East Kings Hwy to Preston St. This parade features large floats, marching bands, and plenty of throws. Jacob Hester will be the Grand Marshall for the Krewe of Gemini parade. Hester started his football career at Evangel Christian Academy by becoming the Louisiana state offensive MVP in the High School State Champion Class 5A. He then began his college career with the LSU Tigers where he was the starting running back for the 2007 National Championship team. Drafted by the Chargers in 2008 during the third round, Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith found Hesters willingness to do it all the most appealing. Jacob is now in his third year as the starting fullback with the San Diego Chargers.Call 318-741-9264 for more information, or visit the official website.

Note: Bossier City police will close the westbound lanes of traffic of the Shreveport-Barksdale Bridge in Bossier City beginning at approximately 3 p.m. this Saturday, March 5 for the Krewe of Gemini parade. Westbound traffic will be diverted onto the Arthur Ray Teague Parkway. The bridge will remain closed until the parade concludes. Other traffic closures will take place in the Highland area on Sunday, so be prepared for detours.

The Krewe of Highland rolls at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 6, 2011. The parade starts at the corner of Creswell and Kings Highway going north on Creswell to Herndon heading east to Highland moving south to Olive then turning east on Centenary south past Kings Highway where it continues on Gladstone ending at Creswell. Following the parade will be the Carnival de Columbia in Columbia Park located between Rutherford and Columbia and between Line and Creswell. In store are family activities including entertainment, childrens activities, food, and fun. For parade and general information regarding the Krewe of Highland go to thekreweofhighland.org

Both parades prove to be exciting and fun, and parade-goers are sure to be there in force. Enjoy the final parades this Mardi Gras season in Shreveport.

Ride safe and have fun!
