Indiana State Road 46 carves its way through some of Indiana's roughest and most remarkable terrain as well as several landmark cities and towns. This series will chronicle a single-day trip down Indiana 46.
My trip down Indiana 46 started in Columbus: a city that describes itself as "unexpected" and "unforgettable." One of the biggest reasons for that slogan is the seemingly endless array of modern art and architecture on display. Columbus is clearly a city with its eyes on the future.
I knew this muchgoing in. But what I didn't expect to find when I got to Columbus was a nod to the past.
On the day of my visit,Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor and Museum (which has been in businesssince 1900)brought out the community'snostalgic side with a classic car show, complete with costumes and old-fashionedpopping corn at its grand reopening ceremony (the building just completed an extensive renovation).
Yet any trip to Columbus does not allow you to look back in time for long. The key to budget travel is to plan onward. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our heads. Organizing and spending our travel budget carefully is a consideration for most families. Minimizing spending and costs, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed success and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind economizing money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal budget is incredibly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, no matter whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!. Next door to Zaharakos is Kids' Commons: a slick, interactive children's museum full of games. A few steps across the street is a construction site for an ultramodern downtown mall. That doesn't count the seemingly endless supply of avant-gardesculptures and iconic buildings.
After a trip to Columbus(about 40 miles southeast of Indianapolis at the interchange of Interstate 65 and Indiana 46)you'll probably agree that it is unexpected and unforgettable.
