Remember the days when flying was an event? The era where hats, gloves, and ties were mandatory? Neither do I.

Nowadays it has become apparent that the standards for travel have relaxed and so have travelers manners. Flights are now fuller and airline staffing is shrinking. If you charge $59 to Florida then you will get the people who act as if they paid $5900, says Tina a veteran flight attendant. It seems now that passengers are more demanding on their flight crews as airlines slash prices.

People are boarding the aircrafts with a sense of entitlement. Its as if I am their personal butler, maid and nanny! remarks Marcus, whos been a flight attendant for a year. The airlines report that incidents of inebriated passengers, air rage and general rudeness have increased. Flight crews are getting abused by passengers who take them for granted.

You should remember that the crew is primarily there for your safety and their other duties are airline marketing skills. Scullys landing on the Hudson was hailed as genius and his many accolades are well deserved. But what about the flight attendants who opened the exits and got everybody out safely? The Air France plane that skidded off the runway in Canada had over two hundred passengers on board and the fast acting crew evacuated everyone in two minutes. Your crew is also trained to handle medical emergencies that happen on board. Believe it or not, heart attacks and diabetic shocks happen more frequently in the air.

So the next time your are asked to place your Hermes bag in the overhead bin or to turn off your cell phone please remember that its for your safety and the request is coming from a highly trained individual and not your personal assistant.
