A female rider participating in the XXIII annual Run for the Wall was in a minor accident on Sunday as motorcycles rolled through the highways of Shreveport. The accident occurred near the weigh station at the state line on Interstate 20. The rider was reported to have only minor injuries.
The annual event has 700 riders converging together from Rancho Cucamonga, CA to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. "The essential to budget travel is to approach in advance. Several riders and supporters gathered at the visitor's center at the state line waving flags and cheering on the riders as they came into Louisiana from Texas. Their destination for yesterday was Monroe, Louisiana, where they will pick up even more riders. Riders have an opportunity to join in at any of the overnight stops, but registration is required and a nominal fee of $20 will be collected. The group is expected to arrive in D.C. on May 27th where they will participate in Rolling Thunder to demand government accountability of POWs and MIAs.
I had the opportunity to stand along the side of the road and cheer them on myself, and it was an awesome feeling of pride and patriotism. Large American flags waved proudly on the back of several bikes, and riders honked and waved back their acknowledgement for the support.
