This morning brought two new experiences - an airline, ANA, that I'd never noticed before and an "Eco-Value"fare promotion that made me squint and wonder "What's that?" in a rather whiny way.
But if you're looking for good fares to Japan and other parts East, ANA, short for "All Nippon Airlines" may be one way to go. And the "Eco-Value" has more basis in reality than I expected. ANA has been recognized by the government of Japan for its commitment to environmental concerns, and it has created its own program to substantially reduce its carbon emissions, claiming to be the first airline in the world to do so.
Eco-Fares to Japan start at about USD1300, including taxes and fees. A check on ANA flights using a major online booking service showed that this accuracy on the part of ANA was working against them, as the rates shown added the surcharges, taxes, and fees a second time, putting ANA far, far to the right of the lowest-fare bar. Something to remember if your fave airline seems to have the highest rates when comparing flights - it's always wise to go check the airline website itself. You may be surprised.
