If you couldnt make it all the way to Hawaii on your summer vacation, Hawaii has decided to come to you. July 28th-30th Portland and Vancouver host the Hawaiian Festival. Throughout all three days you can discover the hula, make bracelets, learn the art of chanting, create things with feathers, become more skilled on the ukulele or learn lauhala weaving. Workshop schedules and prices can be found online and are taught by master instructors from Hawaii.

Free events include:

Thursday nights Paina Enjoy Hawaiian guest musicians for great music and hula (if you want to participate). "The important to budget travel is to plan in advance. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the reality of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our minds. Arranging and expending our travel budget correctly is a consideration for most families. Curbing expending and costs, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievements and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding economizing money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal funds is highly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, no matter whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel expenses!..". You can purchase drinks and pupus (small plates). Great for the whole family. This will take place at the Embassy Suites Hotel at the Portland International Airport from 6pm 9:30pm. Donations are appreciated.

Friday evenings Hap Haole Hula Competition If you have not signed up to be a participant, sit back and relax to watch as your Vancouver and Portland friends and neighbors compete to win in categories such as Comic Hula, Ms. Hapa Haole, Keiki Group and Kupuna Group. The hulas will revolve around a Hawaii theme and winners will be showcased at Saturdays festival. This event takes place at 5pm in Esther Short Park in Vancouver.

Saturdays Hoike & Hawaiian Festival This all-day event has a fantastic mix of hula dancers, Polynesian singers, tribal dancers, musicians, food vendors, arts, crafts and merchants. Play Hawaiian games, learn Keiki hula or make a nose flute! This festival runs from 10am 7pm and will be held in Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver.

So, if you love Hawaii and want to get a taste of island life in the Portland metropolitan area, mark your calendars for this weekend and say aloha to the good weather and a mai taithen go hula your hips off!
