Its October in Charlotte, which means two things are for certain: the temperatures are finally cooling off, and its almost time for another NASCAR race to come to town! Charlotte Motor Speedway will be hosting the Bank of America 500 on Saturday, October 16th.
Never thought you could go to a race and drop less than a few hundred dollars? There are a few things that you can do to get the full race experience and not break the bank. At a NASCAR race, unlike most other sports, the cheaper tickets are the ones closer to the track. The theory is that the higher up you sit, the more of the race you get to see. This may be true, but there are also perks to the cheap seats youre closer to the action, closer to the pits, closer to the drivers. Youre just plain closer. And while you may not be able to see every bit of the track, Charlotte is set up so that you can see all of the turns, the front stretch, and parts of the back stretch from seats along the front stretch. Charlotte Motor Speedway also has screens set up that shows other sections of the racetrack that you may not be able to see from your seats. Tickets are on sale now (I got mine this past weekend, and they were 2 for $99.00 only $49.50 a piece for front row seats) call 1-800-455-FANS or check the website for tickets. If you live in the Charlotte area, another option is to visit the speedway itself and actually buy your tickets at the ticket office.
Another perk of heading to the race is that you dont need to pay for food at the track if you dont want to. Coolers are permitted in the venue, so you can bring your own food and drink as long as you dont bring glass bottles in. This is a great money-saving option, and it will also save you from countless trips back to the concession stands. Make sure to check out the rules to make sure that your cooler meets regulations.
There are even free places to park around the track check out the parking informationto locate these areas. If you are willing to walk, you can save yourself a few bucks for parking in case youd rather spend it on souvenirs or something more fun. There are shuttles and tramsavailable, but these are only available before the race, not after.
Tip of the day: Bring a poncho and a towel. Remember the only time it doesnt rain is when youre already prepared for it!
