Beware of Ryan Air

Bought a ticket on European discount airline RyanAir? If you purchased that ticket using an on-line service other than Ryan Air's own website, your ticket may be cancelled without warning.

Ryanair resents online services selling spots on their planes, and has decided to take this drastic action to preserve the online business in its ticket sales for its own website only.

Consumer advocates are shocked at this move by the carrier. Ryanair insists it is necessary because price-comparison engines scanning the Ryanair site slow its operations. Skeptics think it's because Ryanair sells everything but the kitchen sink on ads which appear on its own booking site, and they feel they lose revenue if someone can book a flight without going to the ad-ridden website. I checked it out myself, and it's not an understatement. At this moment, in addition to buying a seat on a plane, I could find a new provider of heating gas and electricity (if I live in the UK), visit a new casino, and book a dizzying variety of third-party travel services.

Passengers holding the "bad" tickets will have the ticket price refunded to them when they show up at the airport, minus any booking fee they paid at those evil price-comparison websites. A lot of holidays look to be ruined by this policy.

Still, it's hard for an avid budget travelerto really hate an airline which is presently offering a million international seats on various flights for 5 pounds, about US $10.
