There is more to Alpine, Utah than big houses and rich kids. Alpine, Utah is a beautiful, small city nestled right in the base of the Wasatch Mountains. While Alpine is a small city, there is a lot of fun outdoor adventure, and it is all free. If you are looking for some adventure this weekend, here are some things you can do in Alpine.
Sliding Rock Sliding Rock is a natural water slide made from a smooth granite rock and very cold mountain water (perfect for a hot summer day). The rock was closed for some time, as it was a piece of private property, but now is open to the public. That's great news for any local who grew up sliding. Make sure to bring a little picnic and make day out of it. At Sliding Rock, you can enjoy the benefits of a water park and the outdoors all in one. Make sure to slide down the left side of the rock. Don't try and be fancy and slide down the left side of the rock, unless you're into getting hurt.
Dry Creek Canyon Another great activity in Alpine is hiking. Dry Creek Canyon is easy to get to and the hiking is amazing. Not only are you allowed to hike on this trail, but you can also horse back ride. There is a lot of space to tote up a horse trailer, so bring your horses and come up the canyon. Make sure to bring a lot of water, because the trail is a lot longer than you think it is. In fact, you can hike all the way up to Box Elder via hiking trails in Alpine.
Mountain Biking -- Alpine has a lot of trails that are specifically designed for mountain bikers. You can bike up the canyon, or you can head towards the Southeast part of Alpine, and you will find a ton of great mountain biking trails. Make sure to wear a helmet, as the terrain is intense.
Camels and Bison -- You don't have to go to Egypt to see camels, or Montana to see Bison. For whatever reason, there are some lofty land-owners in Alpine, who have made some fun animal purchases. You can see the Bison on your way up to the mountain biking trails, and you will see the camels on your way up to sliding rock.
Alpine is a great place to visit if you are looking for a fun summer day in Utah.
