Every once in a while, something travel-related is called to my supposedly expert attention and I come away going, "Huh?"

This time, it's an offering from Luxe in association with Shanghai Tang, a China-based boutique chain. The new travel essential? A US $1500 dollar White Tiger Chest - a wooden box which looks singularly difficult to use as either a carry-on or a checked piece of baggage..

Admittedly, the box is made of maple and ebony marquetry - which is a type of wood mosaic if, glancing around your living room or office, you don't happen to have any marquetryin your decorto remind you of the term.

And this box is not empty - it's designed to hold all of your Luxe travel guides, a skinny guide to deluxe offerings in cities around the world. The essential to budget travel is to plan in front. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the truth of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our heads. Preparation and consuming our travel budget properly is a concern for most families. Minimizing expending and costs, while still enjoying your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievement and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding economizing money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal funds is incredibly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also remembering that while traveling, no matter whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel bill!. The only problem is that if you wanted to use this admittedly finely-made box for something else, that "something else" better have the proportions of a stack of Luxe travel guides.

Only seventy of these beauties will be made, and each will be numbered. Apparently, the 2009 edition sold out, so there are some wealthy folk out there who believe this is a great value and worthy expenditure. I'd love to hear from you if you have one of these babies on hand, perhaps in your designated Travel Gear walk-in closet or room. What do you really do with it? Just use it to lovingly hold your Luxe City guides, safe and sound against the rigors of, oh, an ordinary bookshelf?

So, am I missing the point here? Is there one? Feel free to comment below!
