Settled in a valley nestled in the Appalachian Mountains and flanked by the Kanawha and Elk Rivers, Charleston, West Virginia is a cute Capital city with a thriving indie art scene. The art scene is prevalent throughout the year with monthly downtown ArtWalks, local artists works displayed at funky local restaurants like Bluegrass Kitchen and on sidewalk banners lining the streets of the citys trendy East End neighborhood. However, the time of year that Charlestons art scene really comes alive is during FestivALLwhen Charleston itself becomes a work of art.

FestivALL, the popular ten day comprehensive arts festival, now in itssixth year, has morphed from a four day affair into a ten day extravaganza. In fact, the event has become so popular there are now pre-FestivALL events for all the activities that couldnt be crammed into the allotted ten days.

The affair creates an atmosphere unique to any other city. With the warm weather, the picturesque downtown streets reminiscent of Disneys Main Street USA and the energetic vibe pulsating throughout the heart of the city is unparallel to any other event. It provides an atmosphere that says, Yes, Im here and Im happy to be alive.

FestivALL brings every type of artistic expression together and showcases it at different places and times during the ten day event. Art isnt just about paintings. Art is everywhere and FestivALL sets out to make sure its recognized and hopefully appreciated. The essential to budget travel is to plan onward. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the truth of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our mind. Planning and consuming our travel budget properly is a main concern for most families. Reducing spending and fees, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain success and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding economizing money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal funds is highly small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a big vacation or travel bill!. It can even be found in the ambience of the city. The art of people coming out and coming together to enjoy something beautiful. In fact, the literal art of people coming together is displayed during FestivALL as random flash mobs appear across the city at any given time to break out in dance.

What art interests you? Music? There are probably more musical events than any other during FestivALL. Whether it be listening to Blues on the lawn of the University of Charleston next to the Kanawha River during the Blues, Brews and BBQ event; Jiving to Jazz during the Wine and All That Jazz event on the same University of Charleston lawn or even just a selection of barber shop quartets and street-corner doo-woppers performed randomly throughout the streets of Charleston during the Guerilla Harmony celebration, just to name a few, music can be heard from every brick-paved street throughout the city.

Performing arts? A plethora of plays take place around town as well. Turn any given corner during the ten day event and youre likely to encounter a mime or even a belly dancer entertaining the masses.

Visual Arts? Buswater on the Boulevard is just one event of many that showcase the visual arts when a historic house on the tranquil bank of the Kanawha River is transformed into an art museum for local, regional and national artists.

Architecture? A tour of the Charlestons four oldest places of worship is given as well as a historic homes tour. Or if youd rather tour on your own, the East End self-guided walking tour will take you through the tree-lined streets of Charlestons East End and down what may just be the longest block in all of the country to discover some of the beautiful architecture of the area.

Didnt think cemeteries could be a venue for art? Think again. A walking tour of the Spring Hill Cemetery showcases historic monuments and provides reinactments of some of Charleston's Founding Fathers.

Food? Of courseTaste-of-all is a celebration of the unique and diverse food of Charleston.

What makes FestivALL unique is the focus it puts on the locals. The event is about them. A venue to showcase their artwork, whether it is in empty downtown storefronts for ArtGawk, or a public paint by numbers or even paint your own Catfish event (the catfish has become FestivALLs mascot), anyone can participate even if participation just means walking around the streets taking in the art, or perhaps even purchasing some at the Capitol Street Art Fair.

But the locals dont just consist of people; the locals include the animals too. Perhaps the most entertaining and popular event during FestivALL is the West Side Weiner Dog Race. Watch the wiener dogs gather and compete to see who the fastest wiener dog in all of Charleston is.

Festivall 2010 runs from June 18-27th. With hundreds of events (many of them free) running at different times and often simultaneously during the ten days, there will be something for everyone. Upload the iPhone app to keep up with the FestivALL schedule. www.festivallcharleston.com
