Leilani Wildman, from Washington State, has a story that began eight years ago when her husband, Ray, purchased his first motorcycle. That purchase lead to a search for Leilani for a bike that would be just right for her.
This story starts at that point in time when Ray, against her wishes, brought home a motorcycle. Leilani decided to get even with him. She bought a little dog and named him Harley. This turned out not be such a sweet revenge she had hoped for as Ray fell in love with little Harley.
After six months, the big Harley was still in the garage so Leilani decide to go for some rides with Ray. It didnt take her long to realize she wasnt meant to be a back rest. "The key to budget travel is to approach in advance. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the truth of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our thoughts. Organizing and consuming our travel budget carefully is a main concern for most families. Curbing consuming and expenses, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed achievement and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding saving money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal budget is incredibly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, regardless of whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!..". She also realized that she prefers to be in charge and in control of her own destiny. Determined to learn to handle a motorcycle on her own, Leilani signed up for and passed the Motorcycle Safety Foundation class.
Leilanis first motorcycle was an older model Virago 250. That bike only lasted about a month because, as Leilani said, When I rolled back on the throttle, I figured it should move!
The next motorcycle for Leilani was a Suzuki 650. She next bought an 883 Sportster and traded it in on a 1200 Sportster XL and ended up riding the 1200 for about two years.
In the meantime, Leilanis friend, Jackie, had an absolutely beautiful red and purple 2006 Softail Deluxe. Leilani fell in love with the look of the bike but assumed she was, at just 4 11, too short for a big bike. In 2008, Jackie traded up to an Ultra. Now Jackies Deluxe was available! Ray suggested they buy the Deluxe promising to help Leilani out of any tight spots she might find herself in.
With modifications that included a Corbin close seat and reachable handle bars, Leilani was on her way. Although frustrating at times to ask for help in backing up hill, she truly loved that gorgeous motorcycle.
Last year Leilani and Ray bought a toy hauler. They soon discovered that getting Rays Ultra Classic in and out of the trailer was a big problem. After much discussion, they decide to trade in the Ultra for a new 883 SuperLow for her and he would ride the Deluxe.
That switch to the SuperLow only lasted about six months. Leilani tried to bond with the little Sportster but she missed the comfort of the Deluxe. So it was back to the dealer. This time they traded the SuperLow in on a Softail Heritage. Ray now rides the Heritage and Leilani once again on her beautiful Deluxe!
In just seven years, Leilani has had seven motorcycles but is confident she has found the bike that is just right for her.
Leilani is a prime example of never saying Im too short to ride. She still has some problems in tight parking situations but has learned to swallow her pride and just ask for help. She adds, Learning to ride has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my life. The friendships, adventures, and sense of being a part of something bigger than I am have been amazing! And as much as I hate to admit my age (63), I know that riding will keep me young forever!
