Amtrak's new service to Leavenworth: Enjoy the fondue without the drive

Amtrak started service to Leavenworth, Washington's Bavarian-like winter wonderland, back in September. But now is the best time to get away for a short holiday.

Winter is Leavenworth's specialty and now you can take advantage without worrying about that drive over mountain passes in ice and snow. And since Leavenworth is a walkable town and snow drifts can crowd out the limited parking, the train is a great idea. Fares start at $18 each way and you can use your AAA discount for an additional 10% off.

Upcoming events include the Ice Fest. The key to budget travel is to plan ahead.
