On a very wet and soggy Saturday afternoon I went to Hells Kitchen Pizza for comfort food. The pizzeria had been open for a little over year, and gained the reputation of a friendly neighborhood pizzeria. The online reviews raved about their famous Mac n Cheese pizza. I just had to go try this unique take on comfort food.
Hells Kitchen Pizza isnt decorated in the same fashion as the other pizzerias. There isnt a drop of white paint on the walls and no obligatory lunch special of two slices and a soda posted for $4.99. Owner, Russ Brunelli wanted to decorate in the spirit of Hells Kitchen sans skulls, crossbones, horns and demons. Instead, theres an artful Wall of Flames painted in red, orange and black. Directly in front of the Wall of Flame is a doctored image of Audrey Hepburn holding a slice of pizza.
These days ketchup and bread pass as pizza, scoffs Brunelli. Pizza is a great food and now New Yorkers can look forward to a different kind of pizza. What kind is that? Good, he replied with his head cocked to the side.
The pizza is indeed good. During our interview there was a patron who seemed to be taking too long eating his slice. He later confessed to Brunelli that he has a blog that trashes New York pizzerias, but he couldnt do that after having a slice of the Grandma. In this age where mom and pop businesses are falling by the wayside, Hells Kitchen Pizza stands out with Brunellis cutting edge pizza creations. Leading the way is the Hell Fire made with hot Italian sausage, pepperoni, and Italian cherry peppers. Now, I am not scared of heat, but after hearing these ingredients I got little nervous, but the first bite alleviated my fears. The slice struck a balance between cheese and heat. I have at least four slices of the Hell Fire every day, beams Brunelli. The key to budget travel is to approach onward. When it happens to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our mind. Organizing and expending our travel budget wisely is a consideration for most families. Lowering spending and expenses, while still enjoying your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed achievement and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind protecting money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal funds is really small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!. The other stars at Hells Kitchen Pizza are the Ol School which is an ode to the thin crust pizza that New York is known for producing; the Mac n Cheese, which was created for the neighborhood kids, but is even more popular among the adults and the Gran Ma which is a square slice that is layered with cheese first, then sauce, baked and sweetened with fresh basil.
I live right on the corner and I come here all the time, gushes a fellow patron while devouring a slice of Hell Fire.
Brunelli is the self proclaimed Pimp of Pizza and wears a custom made ring to attest this fact. It is easy to see why Hells Kitchen pizza has a growing fan base. The staff is very welcoming, friendly and they take great care in preparing and creating pizza pies that are nothing short of innovative. Brunellis dream is for the business to become a great neighborhood pizzeria that people who visit New York come especially to see and eat. That dream is very possible since 10th and 11th Avenues are changing rapidly to accommodate more tourists that spill over from Times Square to the Intrepid.
