The small town ofNatchezon the banks of the Mississippi was once the center of the cotton industry. The essential to budget travel is to approach ahead. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our heads. Organizing and expending our travel budget correctly is a concern for most families. Curbing expending and prices, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain success and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding saving money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal finances is highly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, regardless of whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel expenses!. This cash crop produced many millionaires, whose beautiful mansions and plantations still surround the city. Many of these homes are available for touring in the spring and again in the fall, and some are open all year-round.

Ladies dressed in period costumes with hoop skirts and crinolines welcome visitors to the mansions. Much of the restoration work in these mansions was spearheaded by the Natchez Garden Club, who located original furnishings and decorated the stately homes with period style wallpaper and draperies.

One of the town's most unique mansions is Longwood Plantation, approached along a tree-lined drive that leads to this octagonal-shaped home just outside the town's center. Sadly the home's interior was never completed after the Civil War

In addition totouring old southernmansions you cansample some of the best of southern cooking at the Carriage House Restaurant located next to Stanton Hall, a lovely antebellum mansion. Be sure to try the fried chicken or catfish--Both are delicious.

Monmouth Plantation, a luxurious property built in 1818, is an excellent choice for overnight stays. Beautiful guest rooms, a grand parlor and dining room are complemented by well-manicured grounds featuring a small duck pond, arched footbridge and pergola. Here guests can enjoy delicious southern cuisine including eggs and cheese grits for breakfast and gumbo soup, roast duck and mint juleps in the evening.

If you're still in the mood for more southern culture and some jazz and blues, you are only a few hours from New Orleans and its haunting southern charm...the perfect ending to this trip through the south.

Follow this trip from Nashville, along the Natchez Trace Highway and through Vicksburg to Natchez.
