Summer is around the corner and with it, the prospect of a family vacation. The essential to budget travel is to plan in advance. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our minds. Organizing and expending our travel budget properly is a concern for most families. Minimizing expending and prices, while still delighting your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain accomplishment and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind protecting money while touring is simple: Even if your personal budget is extremely limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, no matter whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel charge!. In a lagging economy, airfare for a family can look pretty daunting. Packing up the mini-van may be your best chance for getting away for a week. Whether the destination is the goal or the vacation is about the road, travel with children can be expensive. Here are a few tips for making it cheaper.
1) Find lodging with a complimentary breakfast. Embassy Suites and Oxford Suites are just two of the chains that cater to families. Offering large rooms with multiple beds, and sometimes a separate room, they both offer full complimentary breakfasts. They both are well-priced and spending an extra $10 on a room that includes breakfast for the family is worth it. The better sleep you get from the extra space makes it worthwhile too.
2) Pack a cooler. An accessible cooler with cold water and healthy snacks like carrot sticks and grapes will save you from the temptation to give in to overpriced drinks and snacks at every gas stop. You might even try to fit in lunch for the first day.
3) Plot meals at Kids Eat Free restaurants. MyKidsEatFree.com allows you to search for deals by state and city. Rather than have your kids share meals, have them take advantage of eating free and save leftovers for lunch the next day.
4) Use Restaurant.com for restaurant savings. If your trip is well-plotted and you have a chance to read restaurant reviews, buy a few certificates. A $25 off certificate is no more than $10 and sometimes as cheap as a $1 during sales. You can find significant savings, especially when you have a larger number in your party.
5) Use Redbox for movie rentals on the road. I don't get thrilled about DVDs on the road but for long car trips, showing a movie may save your sanity. Redbox allows you to reserve online so you don't have to waste time selecting on site. And you can return the movie to any Redbox location, hours down the road.
6) Turn ticket stubs and brochures into souvenirs. Avoid t-shirts and cheap, overpriced souvenirs. Ticket stubs and that pile of brochures can be laminated later and turned into a wall collage, placemat, or refrigerator magnets.
