Getting to the airport can be a really stressful start to any vacation. Then once you are (finally) there, plan on keeping a hefty sum in your back pocket to pay for parking once you return home. If you have guests coming to Denver, the long lines at the arrival and departure stops makes every driver a little nuts, and the calling each other back and forth, Where are you?, which door?... "The essential to budget travel is to prepare in advance. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is always in the back of our heads. Planning and expending our travel budget correctly is a concern for most families. Curbing spending and expenses, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured accomplishment and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thought regarding protecting money while travelling is simple: Even if your personal finances is incredibly tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, no matter whether on a resources or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!..". is nerve-splitting. You can be sure security will quickly "shoo" you to circle around if your guests are not within eyesight. Why continue to torture ourselves when RTD has made taking the bus to and from Denver International Airport a smooth, stress-free, easy, and especially budget-friendly experience?
When do we leave?
The RTD SkyRide operates seven days a week, 365 days a year, however schedules vary based on weekday, Saturday, and Sunday/holiday times. The SkyRide operates from mostly Park-and-Ride locations, all over metro Denver and Boulder. A bus leaves at least once every hour, starting about 3:30 a.m. Most buses leave every 20-30 minutes during peak times, so if you miss one, another is close behind. The big negative here is it generally takes more than an hour to actually get to the airport. The bus makes several stops, you should be willing to plan ahead and have plenty of time to check in, go through security and all that business. On a positive note, all the buses drop-off and pick-up from a convenient location on level five that is close to the building. You dont have to hike in or shuttle from the parking lots.
How much will it set you back?
An adult, one-way fare is $9, $11 or $13, depending on where the bus picks you up in the city. Now here is a fantastic detail: up to three children, 15 and under, ride free with a paying adult. They also offer a round-trip ticket book, which can save you a few bucks off the one-way fee. A discount fare is also available for seniors 65+, students under 19, Medicare recipients and those with disabilities. The cost is less than half a regular fare. Military members ride free anywhere on RTD.
So, let us compare this deal.
To park in the garage at DIA it will set you back $21 per day ($21x5=$105). You could try to park in the economy lot, those are $11 per day ($11x5=$55), and are often full before noon. Alternatively, you could sit back, read the paper, have some coffee, and let someone else drive you to and from the airport ($17-$19 roundtrip). That is priceless.
