Saturday, May 11, 2013 is National Train Day. It is a day to celebrate the contributions that railroads have made. Events are being planned throughout the nation, but you do not have to travel far from the Washington D.C. region to find an event.
At Union Station in Washington D.C., there will be tours of private luxury cars, freight cars, commuter trains and Amtrak equipment. There will also be model train displays, kids activities, model train displays, exhibits, and giveaways. There will also be a 35 minute train excursion on Acela for $5.00. The event runs from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
The Western Maryland Railroad Society will be having an Open House at their museum in Union Bridge, Maryland. The museum is housed in a 111 year old train station that was at one time served by passenger trains. You can also see artifacts and learn more about the history of the Western Maryland Railroad. The event runs from 11:00am to 4:00pm. If you cannot make it there on Saturday, the museum opens every Sunday throughout the year.
There are other local events in the District, Baltimore, Maryland, Martinsburg, West Virginia, Boyce, Virginia, Ashland, Virginia, and Richmond, Virginia. "The key to budget travel is to approach ahead. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is generally in the back of our heads. Preparation and spending our travel budget correctly is a concern for most families. Lowering spending and expenses, while still taking pleasure in your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured achievement and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning regarding saving money while traveling is simple: Even if your personal funds is really small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, whether on a budget or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!..".
