In the Tuareg culture, it's the men who are veiled to protect their faces from sun and dust while on horseback. Their deep blue-dyed robes are said to sometimes transfer some of the dye from the fabric to the skin of the men. Why are they veiled? Maybe it has something to do with the foundress of the Tuaregs, Queen Tin Hinan, who is celebrated with a festival in the desert each year in February.
