Earl Handy: St. Baldrick's and what's new at Handy's Lunch counter (Video)

Earl Handy, of Shelburne, proud dad of super sweet twins, G & N, and husband of Alexis, will be having his head shaved.

This amazing event will be Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Ri Ra Irish Pub, 123 Church Street, Vermont.

The St. Baldricks Foundation coordinates worldwide signature head-shaving events where volunteers get bald to stand in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to support life-saving childhood cancer research.

Many of you know Earl as the owner and friendly face of Handy's Lunch, 74 Maple Street, Burlington.

The diner regulars may have noticed some subtle changes recently.

If this is your first visit to the horseshoe lunch counter let's break it down.

The owner, good guy, Earl Handy is the same.

The seasonal menu including apple pancakes and daily soups is new.

Jeremy hustling in the kitchen is the same.

The Coca-Cola specials board tells it like it is Apple pancakes, contribute $1.00 to St. Baldricks to see Earl shave his head and an almost endless list of bottled beverage flavors, which are new.

The charming, Mom, also known as, Janet Handy, is the same person making the Texas sauce, the soups and the M&M cookies, and a little bit of everything in between.

The menu board, counter and wall space it opens up is new.

The regulars, doctors, politicians and UVM sports stars that Earl knows by name are the same.

The steady stream of tourists, UVM freshmen parents, the throngs of Yelp.com fans are new, till they become regulars!

Earl roots for the Yankees, dotes on his kids and only drinks shakes with one fruit flavor. These things will never change.
