Staycation: Winter Park Chocolate Festival

Ever wished you could have been on that fabled tour of Willy Wonkas Chocolate Factory? If you come to the Winter Park Chocolate Festival, you can hear all about it from Violet Beauregarde herself.

Winter Park resort is hosting a chocolate festival on Friday, June 25 through Saturday, June 26, 2010. The event kicks off on Friday at dusk with a free outdoor showing of the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The key to budget travel is to plan onward. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new places we have never been before, the actuality of expense and budgeting is often in the back of our mind. Denise Nickerson, who played Violet Beauregarde, will discuss the making of the movie at 7:30 p.m. in the Zephyr Plaza.

On Saturday, the festival will run from 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. Events include a no-hands pudding eating contest, another appearance by Denise Nickerson, who discusses her life as the Blueberry Girl, and demonstrations on truffles, and chocolate and wine pairings. There will be a wide variety of regional chocolate vendors with delicious treats to taste and purchase. You can also enjoy live music by the band Wonderlic. Admission is free, though there is a $10 charge for a Taste Ticket.

Winter Park is approximately an hour and a half drive from Denver, which makes for an easy weekend getaway. The chocolate festival will be located in the Village, where you can also enjoy shopping and dining while admiring the rustic feel of the town.
