Motorcyclists never need much reason to ride but the 2013 Tour of Honor does just that with a chance to hit the open road, honor heroes, and contribute to a good cause.
This event is a season-long, self-directed ride to memorials and monuments around the continental United States plus Hawaii. In addition, one Canadian province, Ontario, is participating and will include allowing visits to memorials via snowmobiles until June 1.
The good cause is Wounded Warrior Project with $10.00 from each registration plus all profits after expenses going to benefit wounded armed forces personnel and their families.
Upon registration, participants are mailed a tour flag and then begin the motorcycle tour of memorials listed on the website. When the motorcyclist visits a memorial, he or she photographs their bike with the tour flag at the memorial. In addition, the biking community gets a chance to pay respect for those honored by the memorials.
There are trophies and prizes for those who compete and for those who visit all the memorials in a state or region however, the real purpose of this tour is to honor heroes, donate to Wounded Warrior Project, and have some fun.
Registration for Tour of Honor is already open and will remain open until October 31, 2013 when the contest closes. Cost to participate is $75.00 and includes a tee shirt and a tour flag plus the donation to Wounded Warrior Project. "The essential to budget travel is to plan in advance. Even if one decides not to mail in a registration for this event, the list of memorials by state or region is reason enough to get out and honor soldiers, first responders, and police officers.
This ride is sponsored by the Iron Butt Association and is an AMA-sanctioned event.
