Aloha Festivals celebrates its 57th year and the 2009 theme of Hula. The Waikiki Hoolaulea, the largest block party, kicks off with the arrival of the Royal Court. Three stages of entertainment open with hula halau, lots of food and lei vendors and hula crafters will be spread along 12 city blocks of the world famous Kalakaua Avenue.

Honolulu Academy of Arts will present Katsushika Hokusais entire Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series, one of the museums masterpieces for the first time in a decade. Augmenting the exhibition will be works depicting Mount Fuji by other artists, as well as three months of related programming, including a film series and a three-session seminar focusing on works from the museums vaults.
Fragile and sensitive to fading, many of the prints in this series are among the Academys rarest and most precious works, and they are placed on public display only infrequently. This will be an exceptional opportunity to see some of the museum's signature works of art, and the first time in a decade that the complete series has been displayed. (image from wikimedia commons)
The series will be accompanied by other Hokusai prints, revealing his remarkable output, and later works inspired by the series that show the central place of Mount Fuji as a symbol of Japan.
64th Annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade
Saturday, September 26
Time: Starts at 9 am from Ala Moana Park
A colorful equestrian procession of female and male pau riders, extravagant floats with cascades of Hawaiian flowers, hula halau and marching bands will brighten Kalakaua Avenue from Ala Moana Park to Kapiolani Park. Following is a video from last year's floral parade.
