Just a short drive from the historic town of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia nestled of the beaten path you will find the Harpers Ferry Toy Train Museum and Joy Line Miniature Railroad. You drive in, and you see the tracks that the railroad runs on. It includes a train station that was a section of car house that was part of the train station in Hagerstown, Maryland, a train trestle, a tunnel, railroad signals and even a small rail yard. You board the steam or diesel locomotive, whichever they are operating, and you ride a few laps around the track. Once the train comes to a stop, the ride is over. You take a look at the different trains in the yard, and you are done.

Not exactly!

You take a walk up the hill. You enter into a building where you see a large collection of old toy trains and railroad memorabilia. Many of the trains go as far back as the early twentieth century before 1939. "The essential to budget travel is to plan onward. When it comes along to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new spots we have never been before, the reality of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our minds. Organizing and spending our travel budget wisely is a consideration for most families. Curbing consuming and expenses, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to assured accomplishment and fiscal responsibility. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind protecting money while touring is simple: Even if your personal budget is incredibly limited, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also thinking about that while traveling, regardless of whether on a finances or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel costs!..". You will see model train displays of the old trains rolling around. The collection was once housed in an old baggage car in the historic town, but it was moved to its present location where the Joy Line would be built.

The Harpers Ferry Toy Train Museum and Joy Line Miniature Railroad is a family owned operation that was begun by Robert Wallich, Sr. who loved collecting trains. The collection was made public in 1970, and the museum is currently operated by his children and grandchildren. This museum is a great detour to take if you are ever in the area.

The museum is only open on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays between April and October. It is located on Bakerton Road about a mile from U.S. 340 west of the historic Harpers Ferry town area. It is an hous drive from D.C. The fare to ride the train is only $4.00. They do not have a website, but you can visit their Facebook page. Just go to the Harpers Ferry Toy Train Museum and Joy Line Railroad page to see pictures of the trains.
