San Antonio has long been a popular destination for Texas tourists. If you're planning a trip there, be sure to visit some of these 10 attractions.
- SeaWorld San Antonio
Perhaps the coolest thing SeaWorld has to offer is the interactive program. Visitors can touch and interact with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins or become apprentice animal trainers to interact with sea lions. Looking for strictly human encounters? Tube along the 1,200-foot water route or brave The Great White - an inverted steel roller coaster with loops and corkscrews. - Witte Museum
Located along the San Antonio River, this museum includes dinosaur skeletons, cave drawings and live animals. The H-E-B Science Treehouse was renovated in 2006 and offers hands-on science exhibits. Plan carefully. The Museum is open until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, but closes at 5 p.m. the rest of the week. One more reason to visit on Tuesday - admission is free from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. - Natural Bridge Caverns
If you're one of the people who believe you have to travel out of the country or at least out of Texas to see some amazing natural wonders, think again. The Natural Bridge Caverns, discovered by a group of college students in 1960, will rock your world. Take the Illumination Tour and check out two massive underground chambers with stalactites in many shapes and sizes. Dress comfortably for this visit - the humidity is at nearly 100 percent and the ground is slick. - Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch African Safari
Zebras, giraffes and kangaroos. That's exactly what you expect to see in Texas, right? The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch offers these exotic creatures and more. Take a self-guided tour in your vehicle through four miles and 60 minutes of African Safari adventure. Be sure to try the 30-minute hands-on tour as well. With more than 125 years under its belt, this attraction offers a fun Wild West experience. The museum features more than 1,200 trophy mounts with more than 520 species including a 78 point buck. The wax museum spans 400 years of Texas history with 14 interactive displays. The saloon and cafe serves southern food - think barbecue, gravy and rib-eye steak. "The Oddest Store in the World" is the saloon's curio store, which opened in 1920 in response to Prohibition. - San Antonio Zoo
Hey, Mom and Dad - Parents magazine named the San Antonio Zoo one of the 10 Best Zoos for Kids in 2009. This zoo is home to everything from lions and otters to bald eagles and bullfrogs. With more than a dozen exhibits, the San Antonio Zoo is sure to show you something new. They want to be sure future generations will be able to see those creatures too, so they are caring for more than 230 threatened and endangered species. The Siege and Battle at the Alamo made history. Visitors today can check out exhibits on the Texas Revolution and state history with artifacts such as David Crockett's vest and William B. Travis's ring. The complex includes the Shrine, the Long Barrack Museum and the gift shop. The Alamo is open until 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays during June, July and August. - Wonder World Park
Ok, this attraction is actually in San Marcos, but it's worth the drive. Visit Balcones Fault Line Cave which was formed by an earthquake. Blow your mind in the Anti-Gravity House where water flows uphill. The park's Express Train takes visitors to a wildlife petting area with friendly animals. Travel 190 feet to the Observation Tower to view the shifting that resulted along the fault line. Click here for a discounted admission coupon. - Schlitterbahn Waterpark
This New Braunfels waterpark offers kid-friendly fun with areas for all ages. Check out some of the rides and slides or cool off in the lazy river. The uphill water coasters are sure to excite. The park provides free tubes, lifejackets and parking. Does all this summer activity leave you nostalgic for Santa? Mosey on over to the adjacent Christmas Shoppe, where the holiday spirit is available all year. - The San Antonio River Walk
No visit to San Antonio is complete without spending time at the river walk. Take in the river's history on a Rio San Antonio Cruise or check out one of the many restaurants and shops that line the river walk. The bridges over the river are remnant of the famous canal bridges in Amsterdam. The River Walk is an active site for events and tourists. As of May 30, 2009, the River Walk is doubling in size, stretching north to connect with new sites.
