Where railroads once rolled: Lexington, MA (Photos)

When you think about the town of Lexington, Massachusetts, you think about the famous Shot Heard around the World. "The essential to budget travel is to prepare ahead. It was here where the very first battle of the American Revolutionary War was fought. Today, it is a suburb of Boston. It is a busy town with stores along its main streets, but you can still tour the many historic sites of the town. What you may not know is that Lexington was once a railroad stop.
The Train Depot was built in 1847, and it was a busy depot throughout its time. It was served by passenger trains and by freight trains where farmers were able to ship their produce to places like Boston and beyond. At one point, it was served by nineteen trains a day. The railroad line eventually ceased operation. (The year is currently unknown.) It has been turned into what is now the Minutemen Bikeway.
The depot remains to this day in the way it was originally built, and it is currently used for private parties. It is located at 13 Depot Square which is near the center of the town. If you ever get the opportunity to visit Lexington, Massachusetts, take some time to see where the American Revolution began, and see the place where the railroad revolution became part of the towns history.
