When most people think of Mardi Gras a visual of Bourbon Street, alcohol, and beads comes to mind. Mardi Gras however is a festival steeped in Catholic tradition, a celebration that lasts for a month and ends with the beginning of lent. Provided you do your research there are numerous activities tailored especially for kids.


The Mardi Gras parades are an attraction for everyone. Exquisite floats, marching bands, beads, costumes and more keep the children entertained and involve them in the atmosphere of Mardi Gras. In addition to the ever present parades there is a myriad of other activities that can be enjoyed for under $5. Children can enjoy the experience of dressing up in costumes and attending a ball, making their own masks, face painting, king cake decorating, local music, and more; all activities that will add fun and excitement to your family outing.
