If you're thinking about heading over to London, now is the time to book as British Airways is throwing in two free hotel nights when you book air from San Francisco starting from $279 each way per person. The offer, which you must book by October 26, is good for stays through April 3, 2011 (with a few blackout dates). Available hotels are rated at least three stars and include breakfast with their stays.
I tested this offer and found the advertised fare of $279 widely available across all dates. A nonstop flight departing March 22 and returning March 29, 2011 totaled $1,492.90 for two persons. Combined with a standard room at the Royal National hotel, the total came out to $1,980.90. This works out to only paying an extra $488, on top of the airfare, for a six night stay in a city with notoriously high hotel rates.
Register and log in to the British Airways site for an extra $20 off the flight.
With $1 equaling only 0.63, travelers from the United States need all the help they can get to keep expenses down. Thankfully, London has several notable museums that you can visit for free, including The British Museum, the Natural History and Science Museum, and the National Maritime Museum.
