At this particularly dreary time of year some Calgarians look out their windows and wonder Why in the name of horse hooves and oil wells did I choose to live in this frozen wasteland? I am one of those Calgarians. The endless dark days punctuated with gale force winds depressing the temperature to absolute zero depress me as well.

The nice thing about Mexico too is that it is usually one plane trip from Calgary to the destination. I try to avoid going through American airports if I can. Increased security concerns, monster sized airports and the inconvenience of changing flights make a one flight trip an attractive option.

If the many starving homeless dogs in some of the areas you visit are upsetting to you, you can continue the reputation Calgarians have for dog rescue by donating some money to Compassion Without Borders. This organization rescues and rehabilitates street dogs. It should be the goal of any traveler to contribute to as well as gain from a travel experience.
Whether your winter sanity is restored on the beaches, by shopping in the sun, or just exploring a new world, lovely historic Mexico can be yours to enjoy at bargain basement prices. Stay warm!
