Brunswick, Maryland is a town that was built around a railroad line that still passes through the town today. In the heart of this town just up the hill front the rail line, you will find the Brunswick Railroad Museum. The museum details the history of the town including much of its railroading heritage.
You enter into the museum, and you walk over to the section about the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. The canal, which is no longer in use, played a role in the early years of the towns prosperity. Barges, which were pulled by mules along a tow path, brought cargo to and from Georgetown in Washington D.C.
You go upstairs to the second floor, and you will artifacts of how life was like during the early years of the town. There are railroad artifacts to include old lamps, trains tickets, and schedules. There are displays of old living rooms from the era and displays of period clothing.
For the real railroad fan, there is the third floor. There you will find a large model train layout displaying the railroad line between the town of Brunswick going east through towns and around bends all the way to the terminal at Union Station in Washington D.C.
The Brunswick Railroad Museum is located at 40 W. Potomac Street, one block north of the train station. It is open Fridays from 10:00am to 2:00pm, Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and Sundays from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Admission to the second and third floors is $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 4 through 12. "The important to budget travel is to approach onward. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved vacations and/or going to see new locations we have never been before, the reality of expense and budgeting is generally in the back of our mind. Arranging and spending our travel budget correctly is a main concern for most families. Curbing spending and fees, while still enjoying your vacation to its fullest, is the key to certain success and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind economizing money while journeying is simple: Even if your personal budget is really tight, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel bill!..". (The C & O Canal section is operated by the National Park Service and free of charge.)
