Spend midnight at America's 'Most Haunted House'

Get ghostly this Halloween season at Whaley House in the Old Town section of San Diego. This classic, authentic haunted house is a San Diego landmark - and the site of a little bit of ghosthunting of my own.

This Halloween, the Whaley House museum has teamed up with San Diego GhostHunters to offer a number of events to help visitors get their ghost on. The museum is offering extended hours to midnight many nights, with toursconducted by the light of flickering oil lamps. If that's not enough, some nights they are also offeringa special "Ghosthunt" between 12:30am and 1:30 am.

If that isn't enough haunting for you, you can also take a Haunted San Diegotour, where a frightening-by-itself purple and chartreuse bus will take you to a variety of haunted locations escorted by costumed guides. And if you want to maximize your potential ghost encounters, you can stay at one of a number of haunted hotelsmentioned by San Diego Hotels, which promises to find "the perfect hotel for your stay in San Diego". I can just imagine how their information checklist for hotels must read. Non-smoking rooms, check; swimming pool, check; ghosts, check; checkout time: for certain guests, never.
