The place was buzzing today with Boy Scouts, military bands practicing their numbers, security guards directing traffic, visitors checking out one of Oahu's famous landmarks and, like us, families placing flowers on graves.

The 'stage' and seating for the dignitaries and audience were already set up. It's a good thing that 'pop-up' tents are so readily available these days and easy to assemble ... as they will certainly help to shield most of the audience from the sun tomorrow.

A few notable people buried / interned here include:

Patsy Mink, U.S. Congresswoman from Hawaii

Spark Matsunaga, U.S. Senator from Hawaii, member of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team

Ellison Onizuka, first astronaut from Hawaii, killed in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster

Ernie Pyle, World War I veteran and World War II war correspondent

Donn Beach, founder of Don The Beachcomber restaurants and inventor of the tiki bar
