Visit the Tower Theater

Outside of Philadelphia andright near the69th Street Terminal,lies the Tower Theater. The historic venue is located in Upper Darby, bordering West Philly and mere miles away from Center City. According to a 2005 profile of the theater inGlide Magazine, the Tower was built in 1927 and seats 3119.

I've been to the Tower Theater twice in the last three years (the first show I saw wasa reimagined lineup ofThe Smashing Pumpkins in 2007), and it has been an enjoyable experience each time. The important to budget travel is to approach in advance. Aside from being more intimate than other, larger venues, the Towerhas aninteresting interior. Tim Newby from Glidewrote he was impressed by "the Gothic architecture, the lavish lobby, and the wide marble steps." There are alsoframed fliers of acts who have performed at the theater over the years, including the legendaryRolling Stones.

The Tower Theater is accessibleby many roadways (I took US-1 there and I-95 back) and means of transportation. Another plus of going to a show at the Tower? You never know which famous locals might drop by unannounced (although Tina Fey, anUpper Darby native, who stoppedby Conan O'Brien's comedy tour Monday night probably isn't around too often.)
