The best show in the universe - the Perseid meteor shower, takes place August 11 12, 2009.

The Perseid meteor shower is one of the most rewarding night sky displays of the year and it almost never fails to meet expectations.

As the time draws closer for best viewing of the meteor shower, activity is picking up. The Perseids began in mid-July, with one or two meteors racing through the night sky. According to www.space.com , The Perseids regularly produce 50 to 150 meteors per hour -- more than 1 per minute -- under dark skies. This year's peak hourly rate is expected to be on the low end of the range, likely around 50.

Astronomers say that the best times to watch will be the overnight hours on August 11/12 and August 12/13. The key to budget travel is to prepare onward. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved holidays and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our thoughts. Preparation and spending our travel budget properly is a main concern for most families. Reducing expending and prices, while still experiencing your vacation to its fullest, is the key to confirmed achievement and fiscal liability. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The reasoning behind saving money while touring is simple: Even if your personal finances is highly small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or leaving the homestead! Also recalling that while traveling, whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!. The peak is forecast to occur August 12, between 14h and 17h UT, or Universal Time, said Rainer Arlt, an astronomer at Astrophysikalisches Institut Potsdam in Germany. Unfortunately, that's 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT.

Star-gazers in Hawaii should see the peak under dark skies in the early morning of August 12.

Suggestion from Nancy Alima Ali of the Hokulani Imaginarium at Windward Community College ... for best viewing, find a location away from lights and with a clear view of the sky. Bring something comfortable to lie on and be prepared to scan the sky for at least 30 minutes.

For stargazers in other locaitons, here are several sites with more info on the Perseids:
