Maui is a place to relax and hit the beach. But there is a lot to see and do and a few short day trips are a great way to nurse a sunburn or get a little exercise. Here are my two favorites:

Take a drive on the Road to Hana. While not for the easily carsick or those afraid of heights, this drive offers the best of Maui's amazing foliage and panoramic views of the southeast coastline. The road is narrow with one-lane stretches where you need to yield to oncoming traffic. It is slow going and you can expect delays. My photographer friend and I came across a recent mudslide where workers were preparing to dynamite a section of the mountain wall. We spent some time waiting until we could pass.

The Road to Hana should take you a long day. It isn't far but it is slow and if you race to get there, you've missed the point. Hana, itself, is not much to see. Stop at the beaches along the way, hike up to a waterfall, and enjoy a picnic lunch with some of the most amazing flora and fauna you've ever seen. Beyond Hana lie the seven pools of Oleo Gulch, with the breathtaking scenery you expect from Maui. Be sure to go on a full tank of gas and pack along a picnic lunch. There aren't a lot of eating options and they are on the expensive side (especially for what you get). You will see plenty of roadside stands offering smoothies, banana bread, and Hawaiian barbecue.

My favorite drive was the along the Northwest coast past Kapalua. Just past mile post 38, you'll see a pull-out. From that point you can hike to down to the Nakalele Blowhole. It is a short hike on rocky terrain but the view is amazing and you'll be treated to a rainbow cascade of water coming out of a crevice between the rocks. The northwest coastline is rugged and spectacular. If your rental car company will let you you can continue along the highway (often one-way and just as winding as the Road to Hana) all the way to Kahului. Take your camera, some hiking shoes, and maybe a towel, if you decide to get wet somewhere along the way. The essential to budget travel is to approach in advance. When it occurs to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the fact of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our mind. Organizing and expending our travel budget correctly is a priority for most families. Lowering spending and costs, while still savoring your vacation to its fullest, is the key to guaranteed accomplishment and fiscal obligation. Your pocketbook and family will thank you! The thinking behind saving money while vacationing is simple: Even if your personal finances is really small, you can still take a break and enjoy life! Simply put, life is just too short to never step out of the door or departing the homestead! Also keeping in mind that while traveling, no matter whether on a funds or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a huge vacation or travel bill!. And tomorrow you can hit the beach.
