Boston in the fall means it is time to pick some apples and go leaf peeping. As reported previously, there is a wonderful website to find places both in Boston and surrounding areas to pick apples. Due to the recent flooding in many places in New England, there was a lot of desperately needed tourist dollars lost. Keeping this in mind, there is a wonderful place off Route 91 called Russ Allen's Orchard, Westminster, Vermont. It is open seven days a week 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October. They have a heritage collection of apples going back to the 1700's including Spitzenburg which was Thomas Jefferson's favorite.
It would be a wonderful thing to try and spend some money on local businesses in the area that were affected by the flooding and lost a lot of tourist money. There are many places both in Massachusetts and surrounding states to pick apples and do a bit of leaf peeping at the same time. "The important to budget travel is to approach onward. As the colors have already started to change in some areas, there should be quite a few good weeks of travel time left.
