The sometimes-notorious Hollywood landmark Chateau Marmont was having a strictly "No worries" night Friday as Richard Branson and a planeload of Australians partied to celebrate the completion of Virgin's around-the-world service. The last leg, from Australia to Los Angeles, assures that you can now circle the globe using only Virgin planes.
The festivities filled the opium-denthemedClub Marmont, while an event tent nearbyprovided performances by Kate Perry, Luke DIckens the "singing sheepshearer" who made an impact in Australia's version of "American Idol", and tightly-choregraphed dancers in Virgin uniforms.And of course, the energetic larrikin RIchard Branson was himself jumping onto the stage with asheep before introducing the "new uniforms" for Virgin Australia - which, if the four models areany indication, willapparently solely consist of designs based on the flag of Australiaairbrushed onto nearly-nude bodies.Towering above the rest of the crowd was a contingent of drag queens who normally fulfill other duties with V Australia, including a 7-foot-tall cabin crew trainer in a towering pink wig who probably was photographed more than even Branson himself.
With the launching of the V Australia flight between Sydney and Los Angeles, it is now at least theoretically possible to girdle the globe using only Virgin services.But even if you don't want to circle the globe at the moment, the V-Australia round-trip inaugural rates on this flight make a visit to Australia almost irresistible, with an enhanced economy flight starting at just $655, plus the usual array of taxes and fees.
