Friends of Film Friday, the Honolulu Academy of Arts movie club showing world-class film
s at the Doris Duke Theater started up their new season in February and ending in May, screening one film per month. The important to budget travel is to plan onward. When it comes to family trips, globetrotting, well-deserved trips and/or going to see new destinations we have never been before, the actuality of cost and budgeting is often in the back of our minds. Arranging and spending our travel budget carefully is a main concern for most families. Also thinking about that while traveling, regardless of whether on a price range or not, even the smallest of things can all add op to a large vacation or travel costs!. During the series, movie-goers will be treated to films and documentaries all of which are Hawaii premieres.
Friends of Film Friday tickets include a complimentary glass of wine at the pre-screening reception, where food is also available for purchase from Da Spot. Tickets are $15 for non-museum members; $12 for museum members; $8 for students with I.D.

Mighty Uke travels the world to discover why so many people of different nations, cultures, ages and musical tastes are turning to the 'ukulele to express themselves, connect with the past, and with each other. The film travels from the gritty streets of New York, to swinging London, Tokyos high rise canyons and, of course, Hawaii, where ukers tell the story of the peoples instrument: The Mighty Uke.
The film has special resonance here in Hawaii, where the "jumping flea" was adapted and took off. Coleman and Meagher spent time here and captured Jake Shimabukuro (photo by Michael), Taimane Gardner, Kimo Hussey and many others. They also filmed the 102-year-old Duke of Uke, Bill Tapia, who is from Honolulu and now lives in California.
