The huge earthquake earlier today near American Samoa that resulted in a tsunami watch has been downgraded to a tsunami advisory. This is good news for residents living near the beach and visitors staying in beachfront hotels.
A bulletin just issued by the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau said:
State Civil Defense advises that waves heights of approximately one to three feet are expected in some areas. The public is strongly advised to stay out of the water and away from shorelines from 12:30 to 7:30 pm today. Strong and unusual currents are expected.
City & County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management advises:

1. Remain out of the ocean
2. Avoid the immediate shorelines on all shores of Oahu
3. Avoid river mouths, harbor entrances, and rivers/canals near coastlines
4. Avoid draining canals where they empty out into the ocean
