Hinkle Fieldhouse showcases basketball the way it used to be

You won't find any luxury suites at Hinkle Fieldhouse. There are no high-definition video boards or trendy food shops. The concourses are narrow, the food is basic and most of the seats don't even have backs. It's not a place known for its creature comforts.

But when you step inside Hinkle Fieldhouse, none of that seems to matter. You're willing to put up with the troughs that serve as urinals and the narrow concourses. Because you don't come to Hinkle Fieldhouse for entertainment...you come to Hinkle to experience basketball the way it used to be.

When Hinkle Fieldhouse opened in 1928 (it was called Butler Fieldhouse back then), it was the largest basketball arena in the world. Even today at a reduced capacity (they turned the court 90 degrees in 1933 to make the venue more fan friendly and reduced capacity again in 1989 after a major renovation) it could still hold the entire Butler University student population two times over. So capacity crowds are hard to come by with so many entertainment options in the city.

But what the fans in attendance lack in quantity they make up for in enthusiasm, noise and knowledge of the game. The way the Butler Bulldogs play team basketball is a throwback to a bygone era, much like the venue that they call home.

And after you experience a game at Hinkle Fieldhouse you wouldn't want it any other way.
