If you like to play miniature golf but find the whole experience a bit artificial, take a trip to Rustic Driving Range and Miniature Golf (more commonly known by its former name as Rustic Gardens).
At Rustic Gardens, the grass is real, the hazards are made of wood and stone and the "greens" are made of sand and gravel. The golf balls ricochet off the trees and the stones surrounding the holes, making for a real challenge for the truly competitive (miniature) golfer.
Rustic Gardens definitely lives up to its name: you can almost envision the chickens, goats and cattle surrounding the course deliberately keeping quiet so not to break your concentration in mid-swing. A 19th-century barn near the sixth hole was moved to the current site in the 1930s, and the place doesn't seem to have changed much since.
On the other side of the barn you'll catch some "real" golfers at the driving range taking in the summer air and launching golf balls 400 yards down the range. But the real fun of Rustic Gardens comes with a putter, a competitor and just seven dollars apiece.
